Sebastian Preis ("we", "us", or "our") operates MushMap (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our App.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

Email address
Password (stored securely using industry-standard hashing)
Display name (if provided)

Usage Data

We may collect information about how you use the App, including:

Features you interact with
Time and date of your activity
Device information (operating system, app version)

User-Generated Content

Any content you create, upload, or store within the App is saved to provide you with the service.

Location Data

The App lets you save the geographic coordinates of places where you found mushrooms. Location data is collected in two ways:

If you grant location permission, the App reads your device's precise location once, at the moment you choose to save a spot at your current position. The App does not access your location in the background and does not track your movement.
If you decline location permission, you can still place the pin manually on the map. In that case the coordinates come from your input, not from your device.

Granting location permission is optional. All features of the App remain available without it.

The coordinates you save are stored with your account and are visible only to you.

Photos

You may optionally attach a photo to a saved spot or to an individual find. Photos are selected by you from your device's photo library or taken with the camera, and are uploaded to our storage provider (Supabase) so they can be shown to you on your other devices.

The App does not scan, analyse, or share your photos. They are visible only to you, and are deleted when you delete the corresponding spot, find, or your account.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

Provide and maintain the App
Authenticate your identity and secure your account
Improve and personalize your experience
Communicate with you about updates or issues
Comply with legal obligations

Third-Party Services

Our App uses the following third-party services:

Supabase (supabase.com) - for authentication, database, and file storage. Supabase processes data on servers managed by Amazon Web Services (AWS). Please refer to Supabase's Privacy Policy at https://supabase.com/privacy for more details.
OpenStreetMap (openstreetmap.org) - for map tiles. When the App displays a map, it requests map images directly from OpenStreetMap's servers. As part of these requests, OpenStreetMap receives your IP address and the coordinates of the map area being displayed. It does not receive your account details or the spots you saved. We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties.

Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase's infrastructure, which runs on Amazon Web Services (AWS). We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with our services. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us.

Children's Privacy

Our App is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you
Request correction of inaccurate data
Request deletion of your data
Object to or restrict processing of your data
